During the match, which the Saddlers lost by two-goals-to-one, Saddlers midfielder Sam Mantom and defender Andy Taylor were both substituted due to injuries, while goalkeeper Neil Etheridge also required treatment.

Following the match, Walsall manager Dean Smith briefly spoke to the press and confirmed that despite Sam appearing to have suffered a recurrence of his knee injury, the midfielder had infact suffered an ankle injury and was unable to continue.

The gaffer also confirmed that Andy Taylor had suffered a similar fate, with his knee forcing him off the pitch, while Neil Etheridge required several stitches to a cut, Smith said; "Sam Mantom has a high ankle sprain – we’re not sure how long he’s going to be out for. Andy Taylor went off feeling his knee."

He continued; "Neil Etheridge has a gash in his knee which is going to require 8-10 stitches. We’ll have them assessed and take it from there."
