Earlier today, Walsall Football Club's Under 18s played host to Wrexham in the latest Football League Youth Alliance (North West) fixture of the season.

Neil Woods' side, went into the game undefeated having won their opening three league games of the season; While Wrexham had defeated Accrington Stanley  by four-goals-to-nil during their most recent Alliance, which took place game earlier in the month.

The first half of today's game was a highly contested affair, with much of the game consigned to a midfield battle; The Saddlers' first real opening came after half an hour as Cameron Peters was found by a good Rory Oliver cut-back, sadly he was unable to divert the effort goal-wards as the scores remained level.

Shortly after, Rory Oliver was involved again as he forced a good save from the 'keeper, Maz Kouhyar with the pass following a nice spell of play in midfield.

With thirty-six minutes on the clock, Saddlers midfielder Jordon Sangha was the next to have an attempt at goal as Wrexham stopper Reece Airey was alert to the danger.

The Saddlers got the second half underway, but it was the visitors who had the opening chance as Ryan Williams found space but could only send his effort over the bar as Saddlers 'keeper Dan Jezeph remained largely untested.

Nathan Owen was the next Saddler to have a shot saved following some nice play down the wing from Brendan Pooni as he beat his marker and cut the ball back.

With ten minutes of the half gone, Walsall opened the scoring as Cameron Peters, who scored during the Saddlers' recent Midland Youth Cup Round 1 win over Burton Albion, slotted home following a poorly defended long ball into the box.

With seventeen minutes of the game remaining, Walsall 'keeper Dan Jezeph was equal to a dangerous Wrexham free kick, Jordan Davies' effort forcing a solid save as the Saddlers remained in the lead.

As the clock ticked on,the Saddlers had another goal-scoring opportunity, following a break from a Wrexham corner, sadly both Jordon Sangha and Cameron Peters were unable to force the ball home, as the score remained 1-0 to the home side.

With very little time left on the clock, Walsall midfielder Nathan Owen forced another save out of the 'keeper, but the Saddlers were unable to extend their lead as the full time whistle was blown.
