Following Saturday afternoon's pre-season victory over Luton Town, Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the club's official website, and praised his side for their display, and discussed his excitement at the 2015/16 campaign finally being within reach.

Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Smith said; “It was a test for us but that’s exactly the sort of game I wanted leading into the season. For 65 minutes we were really good, created lots of chances and caused them problems. Then we got loose on the ball and invited them into the game a lot more.

"I thought again we looked comfortable as a three. As an attacking outfit we looked dangerous, kept the ball well and got bodies forward. It just shows what an attacking system it can be as long as the players believe in it.

“We had to change it towards the end with Matt Preston going off injured but in general we look comfortable with it. We look fit enough now and that’s the idea of pre season.

“I’m really looking forward to the new campaign. Its what we have been working towards and hopefully Matt Preston has just taken a knock and I’ll have a fully fit squad to choose from on Saturday.”
