Following Walsall's pre-season defeat to West Bromwich Albion, Saddlers manager Dean Smith spoke to the local press and has ruled out a move for Anthony Gerrard, who is currently a free agent.
Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “In terms of Anthony Gerrard I don’t think he is one we will go for. Anthony has been here before and a lot of people have worked with him here. I think it would be a backwards step for the club.
“It’s not that Anthony Gerrard can’t play at this level. I just think he has been here before and we want to move forward.”
