Channel 5 have today confirmed that their new Football League highlights show will continue to air even if no Championship fixtures are played over a weekend.

'Football League Tonight' launches at 9pm on Saturday, 8th August, and will bring supporters every goal from all three divisions of the Sky Best Football League.

Its predecessor, 'The Football League Show', which was broadcast on BBC ONE, often did not air when the Sky Bet Championship enjoyed an international break, even if League 1 and League 2 had a full schedule of fixtures.

However, in a statement released via Facebook, the broadcaster confirmed they will always show weekend highlights, regardless of the Championship's potential breaks, a spokesperson said; "Channel 5 can confirm that Football League Tonight will continue in weeks where there is no Sky Bet Championship programme and will provide a special focus on the very best games in Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two."
