Earlier this week the Walsall squad returned to training ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, Saddlers vice captain Paul Downing has spoken to the club's official website and discussed the sessions, insisting that, despite the hard work, it's good to be back.
Speaking to Saddlers.co.uk, Paul said; “It’s nice to be back amongst the lads again. You can tell that everyone has been following their maintenance programme over the summer because we’ve all returned in good shape.
“The hard works starts here, though; the running has been tough, especially on the first day back in the heat, but you have to fight the pain and come through it.
“We’ve had various tests done over the past few days and I am pleased with my scores.
“Everyone starts at the same level and this is an opportunity for me to really kick-on and be ready for the new season.
“I am looking forward to the challenge that League One will present to us. There are some exciting local derbies and big clubs at this level; it’s always been a tight League and this year will be no different.
“It’s good that we have been able to keep the nucleus of the team together and the Gaffer has started to strengthen with some talented new additions, so it all bodes well.”
