Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the local press ahead of Tuesday's Sky Bet League 1 clash with Swindon Town, and has looked back to last weekend's draw with Crewe Alexandra, praising his players for their committed performance.

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Smith said; "There was lots of effort and endeavour and commitment and that's what you want to see from your players.

"We've had two wins on the spin at home and it would have been easy for them to take their foot off the pedal when they were 1-0 down today but they kept trying and got their rewards. It was a bit of a fortunate goal with the deflection but overall I thoughts our efforts probably deserved that.

"I think a draw was a fair result. It wasn't a classic match by any means. It was short on quality but just looking at the pitch, I think you can see why. Two teams really going for it, trying to play football on a tough surface, lots of endeavour, lots of effort but lacked quality.

"The lads tried to win the game today and we were the ones pressing for the winner at the end. Unfortunately we didn't get it, although it would have been a bit unjust if we had got a winner as I felt a draw was a fair result.

"We're pleased that we haven't been beat because we wanted to continue the momentum we've got, coming off the back of two home wins.

"Some of the lads have looked at it already. Crewe can't go above us now, unless they win both games 7-0 and we lose 7-0 or something like that.

"Colchester can't go above us. All of the other seven teams down there could mathematically but it will be tough for them all to win all their games."
