Earlier this evening Bristol City played host to Gillingham in the Second Leg of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Southern Area Final, with the Robins leading 4-2 on aggregate.

Bristol City won the fixture's first leg thanks to four goals from on-loan Fulham striker Matt Smith, his efforts proving more than enough to cancel out Cody McDonald's 5th minute opener, along with his 70th minute strike.

In the second leg the Robins took the lead after 18 minutes, striker Matt Smith bagging his fifth goal of the round. Former Arsenal winger Luke Freeman's corner was headed onto the bar by Smith, who then followed up to slot home.

Jermaine McGlashan gave the Gills fresh hope after 32 minutes, the striker latching onto a Bradley Dack pass to slide home past an onrushing goalkeeper.

An entertaining second half produced no goals, the tie ended one-all, with City winning by five goals to three on aggregate.

Walsall will now take on Bristol City at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 22nd March, with kick off scheduled for 3:30pm.

Thankfully, for Walsall, City striker Matt Smith will be unable to play in the match as he will have reached the Football League's 93 day emergency loan limit by the time the fixture rolls around.
