Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press ahead of this evening's Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Semi-Final fixture against Tranmere Rovers, and has discussed the lengthy gap between games, as the Reds last played on 29th November, a 0-0 draw with Coventry City.

Speaking to the Express & Star, Smith said; “It has given us a chance to rest of a few of the lads. They have had a couple of days off and myself and Richard O’Kelly have been out all weekend watching games.

“The lads have looked really bright in training and we have managed to go and see some of the other teams we will be playing soon.

“The lads have looked really refreshed and hopefully they can come out and show that. They look really bright and it’s only 10 days since the last game.”
