Walsall manager Dean Smith has spoken to the press ahead of this weekend's Sky Bet League One trip to Oldham Athletic, and has praised French striker Mathieu Manset, who stepped into the void left by injured top-scorer Tom Bradshaw against Rochdale.
Speaking to the
Walsall Advertiser, Dean Smith said; "He's still working hard on his fitness and it's always tough when you have missed pre-season.
"But I spoke to him the day before the Rochdale game and told him that, with us being without Tom, I wanted him to step up to the plate.
"I said that I needed him to work really hard to occupy Rochdale's two centre-backs and he did that very well.
"I was really pleased with his performance and it is good to have options up front."
