It is understood that French striker Mathieu Manset was in attendance at tonight's Capital One Cup tie against Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Several social media accounts are reporting that 24-year-old Metz born Manset is in the stands this evening, sparking rumours of a possible deal with the club.

Mathieu initially joined the Saddlers on trial during pre-season and made a goal-scoring debut against Leicester City, a performance which earned him much praise from both press and supporters.

However after a disagreement over the length of a proposed contract with the club, Mathieu opted to return home and took part in a pre-season friendly between Turkish side Kayseri Erciyesspor and Hungarian outfit FC Sopron, where he scored both goals in a 2-0 victory.

Mathieu had missed an initial deadline to agree to a deal and the club had begun to look elsewhere, however it now seems a deal is now back on, with suggestions of an announcement being made in the morning.

Following the evening's game Walsall manager Dean Smith spoke to the press and refused to acknowledge the deal, but did admit that he'd kept in contact with the strikers representatives over the last few weeks.
