GRIGG PRAISES WALSALL SET UP

Former Walsall striker Will Grigg has spoken of his fond memories of the club, and whether he is looking forward to his return to the club with Brentford at the weekend.

Speaking to London24.com, he said; "I have some great memories there. The gaffer did immense amounts for me and so did the club.

He continued; "I've got some really good friends there. They’re a great bunch of lads and what they’re doing there in terms of the football and behind the scenes is brilliant. It’s a good example for a lot of clubs in the Football League.

"It’ll be nice to go back to see friendly faces and stuff but I'm not expecting the best reactions. It means a lot to me as a club."

DOWNING NOMINATED FOR PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Walsall Football Club defender Paul Downing is amongst the nominees for Sky Bet League One Player of the Month for December.

Downing, who joined the Saddlers in August 2012 came through the ranks at West Bromwich Albion, signing pro terms in 2009, he failed to make a first team appearance for the Baggies but did gain experience during loan spells with, Hereford United, Rotherham United, Shrewsbury Town and Barnet.

Also nominated, are;

Jose Baxter (Sheffield United) - midfielder
Given the freedom to roam and use his passing ability to worry opposition defences, he also contributed three goals - a header and two powerful strikes - the highlight a stunning 30-yard equaliser against former club Oldham Athletic. 

Stephen Gleeson (Milton Keynes Dons) - midfielder
Finally recovering his form after a long-term injury, the Irishman scored two stunning goals – against Port Vale and an angled dipping volley at Crawley Town. His box-to-box energy was vital in his side winning all of his December games. 

Sam Saunders (Brentford) – winger
Alternating between the wing and the centre, he drove his side forward throughout a stellar December. Two assists and three goals featured a stunning free-kick against Swindon Town and a terrific 20-yard strike against MK Dons.

The winner will be announced on Friday.

SADDLERS SNAP UP BAGGIES 'KEEPER

Walsall Football Club have today completed the signing of former West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Shane Lewis, on a one-year contract, following a brief trial.

The 20-year old, former England Under-17 international has spent the past few weeks on trial with the club and had once again been invited back to train with the squad this week.

Shane will act as cover for first-choice Richard O'Donnell.

GRIGG REJECTS WALSALL IN FAVOUR OF BEES SWITCH

Now former Walsall striker Will Grigg has turned down a new four-year contract at the Banks's Stadium, in favour of a switch to The Saddlers League One Rivals, Brentford

The 21-year-old Northern Ireland striker had been ever-present for The Saddlers this past season, scoring 20 goals and was seen as a major part of the clubs recent return to form.
