Brentford Football Club have today dealt a blow to Bristol City's hopes of securing the signature of Northern Ireland international striker Will Grigg, despite strong rumours of the deal being close to completion.

Bees sporting director Frank McParland told getwestlondon.co.uk: "We have received no contact from anyone regarding Will Grigg. He's a big part of our plans for next season. We need good players who can score goals. The club invested a lot in Will and he's still under contract for another two years."

If there is a completed deal, Walsall could be in line to receive between £50,000 and £70,000 in compensation thanks to a 20% sell-on clause which was part of the original transfer agreement.
