Soon-to-be released Walsall striker Craig Westcarr has today spoken of his admiration for both Saddlers manager Dean Smith and club Chairman Jeff Bonser...

Speaking to the Walsall Advertiser, Westcarr acknowledged the strength behind the fact that Smith is now seventh-longest-serving manager in English football, he said: “That’s testament to the job he has done – and not just him but the chairman, who has been brilliant and stuck by the manager through thick and thin.

“Some chairmen get rid of managers just like that but the Walsall chairman has his way of doing things and that has fitted in with what the manager wants to do.

“Dean’s good and really relaxed and he wants a relaxed environment, which does help the lads.

“He gives you the chance to express yourself and I would like to place on record my thanks to the gaffer for giving me the opportunity to play up front for Walsall.

“I’ve really enjoyed it and done really well out of it. I would like to think since I’ve been at Walsall that I’ve done well and played my part.”
