It is understood that soon-to-be former Walsall captain Andy Butler has opened contract talks with Saddlers' Sky Bet League One rivals Sheffield United.
Following yesterday's news that the Doncaster-born defender had decided against activating a one-year clause in his contract, it was revealed that the Blades had moved into pole position for his signature, and it now seems that both sides have begun negotiations, which could see Andy link up with fellow Walsall alumni Febian Brandy and Florent Cuvelier.
According to a Press Association reporter, local to the Blades, the talks; which are in their very early stages, have been "encouraging".
