MERSON RETURNS TO THE PITCH ONCE AGAIN

Former Walsall player and manager Paul Merson is set to return to a pitch in Walsall for the first time in seven years.
Former Walsall player and manager Paul Merson is set to return to a pitch in Walsall for the first time in seven years.

On Friday, 16th August 'Merse' will be appearing at The Pitch, Sports Bar & Grill on Bridge Street, Walsall, from 7:30pm.

Paul will be on hand to share some anecdotes about his career, as a player, manager and pundit, and will also take part in a question and answer session.

45-year old Merson's footballing career spanned well over 600 games and included spells with Arsenal, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Portsmouth, who he left to join Walsall in the Summer of 2003. Paul also made 21 appearances for England.

His Saddlers career began with a bang as the midfielder scored during a pre-season friendly versus Aston Villa, who he'd made over one-hundred appearances for between 1998 and 2002. Merse went on to make around seventy Walsall appearances and became manager following Colin Lee's dismissal in March 2004.

Following the club's relegation and his subsequent departure in 2006, Paul has gone on to have a very successful career as a pundit, often appearing on Sky Sports' 'Soccer Saturday' where, alongside the likes of Matt Le Tissier, Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas, he is tasked with reporting on games that are taking place, often falling fowl of the difficult to pronounce overseas names.
