WALSALL VS SCUNTHORPE UNITED - MATCH PREVIEW

After a dreadful month for our league campaign in October, Dean Smith’s men will be looking to turn it around and get off to a better start in November after a dismal draw to Lincoln on Tuesday. It is turning out to be a huge game, with a defeat we could drop as low as 18th, but a victory would more than likely send us back into the top half.

Scunthorpe, this season, have struggled. They are currently 4 points from safety sitting in 22nd spot and are in an even stickier patch than ourselves at this moment in time. They have picked up just 2 points from a possible last 21. It would seem to any onlooker who hasn’t seen the Iron this season that all we have to do is keep top scorer Clarke quite, who’s 7 goals have saved them from being well and truly in trouble.

Walsall ourselves go into the game without a win in 8 in all competitions, but the return to scoring form of Bowerman on Saturday surely has to be a boost. However this leaves Smith with a huge decision as whether or not to start the young striker, which in turn would mean having to change back to a 4-4-2 formation, or drop Northern Ireland international Grigg. Whichever he chooses, it will ultimately be judged on the result of what is now a must win game.

In the recent past when we have played the Iron, we have had a good amount of success. The Saddlers have lost just 2 of the last 13 meetings, winning 7 of those. Last season when the sides met we also had the better of the encounters, only managing a 2-2 home draw but taking an important 1-0 midweek away win when the league was extremely tense in February.

Overall this is simply a must win game for us.

Prediction: Walsall 2 Scunthorpe United 1
