Match Stats: Walsall 3-2 Fulham U21s

Walsall were back in Jersey Mike's Trophy action on Tuesday evening when they welcomed Fulham Under-21s to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

After opening their Southern Group B games with a 6-1 thrashing by League One side Stevenage, the Saddlers were looking to secure their first points of the tournament at home to the young Cottagers.

The opening goal of the game went the way of the Saddlers when Tai Sodje grabbed his first goal in professional football after teammate Courtney Clarke did some strong running down the left.

 

Tai was soon back amongst the goals when he scrambled the ball over the line after teammate Elicha Ahui saw a header blocked, Tai showing plenty of alertness to take advantage.

 

Walsall made it three just before half-time when James Furlong was afforded the freedom of the borough as he took the ball from his own half through the Fulham end before slamming the ball home from the edge of the area.

 

The visitors started the second half strongly, and were soon rewarded for their attacking play when Jonah Kusi-Asare scored with a low effort after the Saddlers struggled to clear their lines.

 

Fulham went on to close in to within a goal of their hosts with just under twenty minutes of the game remaining when Dan Casey slammed the ball home from outside the area. The youngster given far too much space to shoot.
