Match Preview: v Salford City (H)

Here we look ahead to the Saddlers' League Two clash with Salford City.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall are due to be back in action on Monday evening when they welcome Salford City to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium for a League Two clash in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

After earning their first win in four league games with a midweek triumph over Oldham Athletic, the Saddlers are faced with a tough challenge as they welcome the league-leading Ammies to town.

Easing past the Latics thanks to Tai Sodje's fourth goal in three games, and Aaron Pressley's seventh and eighth of the season, the Saddlers halted a run of three successive draws to climb back up to fourth place ahead of this weekend;s round of games.

To say this season's form has been a surprise would be a pretty major understatement. Coming so swiftly on the back of a season that saw the team once again collapse into mid-table, the new-look Saddlers have shown so much fight that it's often hard to believe.

Built with a strong core of players who can both remain patient when forced back and produce a key pass when the game opens up, the squad continues to defy the odds and stand up when it  matters.

Already in record-setting territory, head coach Lee Grant deserves all of the praise coming his way as he has been a man of his word when it comes to style of play and his squads sheer willingness to put it all on the line to achieve their goals.

Of course, we're only a few short months into the season, and the Ammies will be one of the toughest test the team has faced all season. But we believe in the gaffer and his team, and can't wait to see what;s just around the corner.

THE OPPOSITION

Opponents Salford City have enjoyed a tremendous spell of form under new boss Peter Cklamovski. Winning eight of their last nine in the league, the Ammies sit four points clear at the top of the table ahead of this weekend's games.

Winning their last three away league games, Cklamovski's side will be tough to break down, something they demonstrated in midweek as they defeated Bristol Rovers 2-1 in a hard-fought contest at the Memorial Stadium.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Walsall and Salford City have met on fourteen previous occasions, and it's the Ammies that enjoy a narrow head-to-head advantage having won seven of the games compared to the Saddlers' six. (1 draw)

The first meeting took place at Banks's Stadium on Saturday, 5th October 2019, and saw the visitors ease to victory by three-goal-to-nil as Luke Armstrong, Jake Jervis, and Ibou Touray all hit the back of the net.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting, also in League Two, took place at the Ammies' Peninsula Stadium on Tuesday, 10th March 2026, and saw the home side win by a goal to nil.

With Walsall looking to avoid a third defeat in as many games, they struggled to create openings before going on to concede during the second-half when Fabio Borini came off the bench and put the Ammies into the lead with sixteen minutes of the game remaining.

PLAYED FOR BOTH

Aside from current Ammies Dan Scarr, Nathan Asiimwe, and Taylor Allen, a handful of other players have also played for both sides. With Rory Gaffney, Aramide Oteh, Devante Rodney, and Tyreik Wright all representing both teams.

MATCH OFFICIALS

Martin Coy, who is based in Durham, will take charge of the match. Danny Guest and Matthew Moss have been named as assistant referees, whilst Richard Eley will act as Fourth Official.
