Youth Alliance: Rotherham United 1 Walsall 3

The Saddlers and Miller met in an EFL Youth Alliance - North clash on Saturday morning.
Walsall Under-18s' EFL Youth Alliance - North campaign continued on Saturday morning as they made their way to south Yorkshire and took on Rotherham United Under-18s.

The Saddlers named a side that included several scholars as well as players from lower aged groups, also included in the team was central defender Stan Straw, who was making his first start since suffering an injury at the tail end of last season.

WALSALL
Starting XI: Fraser Hamilton-Wright; Ellis Harris, Sam Griffiths, Jude Worrall, Sam Oliver, Stan Straw, Ethan Khan, Archie Bunn, Oliver Nash, Ryan Sjoerdsma, Jaden Kandemiri
Substitutes: Josh Jarman, Ayden Bills, Zion Tuitt, Lincoln Hunt, Fin Batham
The Saddlers, who haven't enjoyed the best start to the 2026/27 campaign, may have thought the writing was on the wall within the first half of the opening forty-five when the young Millers took the lead, however, their position wasn't a strong one, as the game would ultimately reach the break level.

The Saddlers' equaliser came within four minutes of the break when Olly Nash struck the ball into the back of the net, giving his side something to build upon during the second-half.

And build they did, after seeing several substitutions made, including that of Stan Straw who was replaced by Josh Jarman at the break, the Saddlers went into the lead via an Ellis Harris volley.

The Saddlers went on to secure the victory late in second-half stoppage time when Ryan Sjoerdsma put the ball into the back of the Millers' net, capping off a successful afternoon for the young Saddlers!
