Walsall boss Lee Grant praised both the Saddlers' and Grecians' hard work as they played out a goalless draw at St James Park on Saturday afternoon.
Maintaining their unbeaten start to the league season, the Saddlers lacked the cutting edge required to take all three points and had to make do with a share of the spoils as the Grecians also failed to find the back of the net.
Speaking to the assembled media, Grant said: "Two really hard-working teams, and a different sort of Exeter, but an incredibly hard-working one; they were diligent about their work, as were we.
"We know that coming away to any ground in this division is hard, particularly ones that have been in the league above last season. They made it very difficult, we also made it very difficult for them.
"There was two teams fighting for all of the yards and the inches, and I’m disappointed we didn’t create more or take some of the opportunities that we created.
"I’m certain Matt will be saying the same in his changing room as well. So, although we take the ball more and dominate possession, not quite enough from us in terms of finding that last bit."
