Walsall boss Lee Grant has confirmed that he is actively considering taking a dip into the free agent market following a string of injury issues at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.Following the news that on-loan Huddersfield Town midfielder Antony Evans and Alex Pattison will be sidelined for a number of months with hamstring issues, whilst Roman Dixon and Harry Williams continue to make slow progress with their injury rehab, Grant is now considering his options.
When asked about his position on free agents earlier in the season, Grant had insisted he had no plans to make a move, but with the recent injuries, he is now taking another look.
Speaking to George Bennett of the Express & Star, Lee said: “My plans are that we have to be alive to these sort of situations developing. That’s my view.
"I like to have options, I like to be able to look to the bench and have impact. I like to have great challenge in training everybody and the squad to be chomping at the bit.
"When we lose players, we do lose some of that. There’s no getting away from it. It’s something that myself and the football club have got to sit down and talk about because we don’t want to leave ourselves short.
"I’m also mindful that I don’t call all of the shots on this and that we have what we have available to us. We have to just see.
"If there’s something that we can do and something that we think can help then we’ve got to be ready to do that.
"But like I say, that decision will be taken by all of us, and we’ll see where we’re at."
