Walsall Under-18s returned to competitive action on Saturday afternoon as they took on Burton Albion Under-18s in the opening game of their EFL Youth Alliance - North campaign.After completing a pre-season that saw them face a wide range of opposition - as well as fit in a short tour of Scotland - the youngsters were keen to hit the ground running and improve upon last season's difficult campaign.
Taking place on a warm and sunny Saturday afternoon at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium's astroturf, the match saw no goals scored until the final twelve minutes or so as the Brewers went ahead before ultimately being forced to take just a share of the spoils.
Opening the scoring via Samuel Oyemade's well-placed free-kick with 78 minutes played, Burton were unable to retain their lead for much more than ten minutes before Sam Griffiths levelled for the young Saddlers.
An opening-day draw for the Saddlers and Brewers, with Walsall now looking ahead to next weekend's clash with Bradford City.
