Walsall have confirmed the signing of former Everton defender Roman
Dixon, following his release by the Hill Dickinson Stadium club earlier
this summer.Born in Stafford, 21-year-old Dixon, who has penned an initial two-year deal in WS1, joined the Toffees as an Under-12 and steadily rose through the ranks to sign professional terms in the summer of 2024.
Primarily part of Everton's Under-21s, Roman would go on to make his Premier League debut in August of 2024, as his side faced Tottenham Hotspur in London.
As well as playing in Premier League 2, he also spent the second half of last season on loan at Stockport County, earning a handful of appearances before his recent release.
A former England youth international, Dixon is recognised as a right-sided defender and will offer the Saddlers plenty of energy on that side of the pitch.
Following the news that he'd become the latest player to make the move to WS1, Dixon offered a brief glimpse into what he hopes to bring to the team.
Speaking via the club's official website, Roman said: "It feels unbelievable to join. I've been around the group of lads, and they've been brilliant with me and really helped me settle already and feel part of the family.
"I grew up not too far from here in Stafford, Wolverhampton, so it feels like a trip down memory lane in some ways, but when the gaffer rang me I was sold instantly.
"He gave me his plan, his philosophy and his style of play over many conversations and they were nothing but positive things to hear - the way he spoke and sees the game sparked my interest from the off.
"I'm a player who likes to get forward with my speed and get up and down the pitch using my acceleration. Of course, my main priority is to defend, but I also like to contribute further up field too, and hopefully I'll be able to do that.
"I really can't wait to get started and get into the flow with games - it'll be great to be part of a team again and get the winning feeling, so it's definitely something I'm excited for."
