When he went to bed on Wednesday evening, Walsall goalkeeper Jed Ward
probably dreamt of a variety of scenarios that could take place during
the Saddlers' Carabao Cup clash with Bristol City the next day.Be it an opening-minute howler, a save of the season, or something in between, the former Bristol Rovers man probably never expected to equal a seven year old record on the way to a surprising though welcome win.
But, on an evening that saw the home side take over twenty-five shots, that's exactly what happened as Jed pulled off save-after-save, thwarting the Robins' advances as the Saddlers secured a place in Round Two of the Carabao Cup.
Credited with ten saves, Ward became just the second keeper since 2019/20 to make 10+ saves whilst also keeping a clean sheet in a match.
Separated by Aaron Pressley's side-footed goal in the opening stages of the second-half, the two teams will have many more meaningful outings over the course of the campaign, but this one will surely feature in Jed's more memorable matches.
