Walsall have confirmed the signing of former Manchester City forward Tai Sodje, who joins the club from National League North side Buxton for an undisclosed fee.Spotted warming up as the Saddlers took on Leamington at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, the 22-year-old is a product of the Sheffield United and Man City youth set-ups, joining the Cityzens in 2015.
Going on to turn professional at the Etihad Stadium in 2021, Tai was primarily part of City's youth teams but was unable to make a league appearance during his ten-year tenure in Greater Manchester.
After leaving City at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Sodje went on to sign for National League North club Buxton and would enjoy a superb 2025/26, in which he would bag fourteen goals across twenty-six first-team appearances.
Saddlers Head Coach Lee Grant admitted he is pleased to add the forward to his attacking line, and went on to discuss what he'll bring to the side.
Speaking via the club's official website, Lee said: "I’m delighted to bring Tai to the club.
"He’s a player who will give his all for the team and, most importantly, he has a hunger to contribute at the top end of the pitch with goals.
"He arrives to us on the back of a productive first season in professional football with Buxton after leaving Manchester City, and he has a lot of attributes which will complement what we have already from an attacking perspective.
"He’s an exciting forward who wants to get fans off their seats, and I have every confidence that he will be a success here - I’m very much looking forward to working with him."
