Walsall have confirmed that head coach Mat Sadler has left the club with immediate effect following Tuesday evening's Sky Bet League Two defeat to Salford City. The news comes as the Saddlers have won just two of their last fourteen games, form that has seen them drift from a place in the automatic promotion places to sitting just above the bottom half of the table.
Since taking charge in May 2023, Sadler led the team through 161 games, winning 67 and losing 52, statistics that still put him among the more successful managers in recent memory.
Speaking via the club's official website, Co-Chairman Ben Boycott said: "I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the significant efforts and contributions of Mat, both as a professional and as a person, during his time at the Club.
"We thank him for his dedicated service and wish him the very best for the future."
At this time, Darren Byfield will take interim charge of the team, with the immediate focus on Saturday’s fixture against Crewe Alexandra, supported by Terry Connor and the rest of the Club’s backroom staff.
