Liam Ridgewell Linked with Vacant Walsall Job

The well-travelled defender is said to be one of the club's favoured options to take charge at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsAccording to recent media reports, former Aston Villa, Birmingham City, and West Bromwich Albion defender Liam Ridgewell is on the shortlist of people to take charge of the Saddlers.

Walsall are searching for a new head coach after Mat Sadler was given his marching orders after seeing his side win just two of their last fourteen games.

Ridgewell, who is currently assistant manager to Phil Neville at Major League Soccer outfit Portland Timbers, is understood to be on the Saddlers' radar as they look to fill the vacant place in WS1.

41-year-old Ridgewell, a former England U21 international, made over 400 professional appearances for clubs like the Villans, Blues, and Baggies as well as Portland Timers before hanging up his boots in 2020.

After retiring, he joined the then-National League side Dover Athletic as first-team coach in December 2020. He made the move across the pond in 2023, joining the coaching set up at former club Portland Timbers.
