Walsall's on-loan Charlton Athletic striker Daniel Kanu has been named in the Sierra Leone squad for their upcoming games in the 2026 FIFA Series.Kanu has scored sixteen goals across thirty-eight Saddlers appearances so far this season but has gone seven games without a goal as the team struggles to put a strong run of form together.
Selected by head coach Mohamed Kallon, the Leone Stars have been drawn into the same group as host nation Azerbaijan, as well as St. Lucia, and Oman.
The FIFA Men’s Series is a biennial invitational international tournament designed to offer competitive friendly matches between national teams from different confederations.
The 2026 edition is scheduled for later this month and will be the second staging of the competition, following its inaugural edition in 2024.
The tournament will feature national teams from all six FIFA confederations, organised into mini-tournaments of four teams each.
This structure is intended to promote cross-confederation competition, technical development, and international exposure, in line with FIFA’s broader objectives of enhancing global football development and competitive balance.
