Walsall returned to action on Wednesday evening as they visited the Sixfields Stadium and took on Northampton Town in the Vertu Trophy, Round of 16.
The Saddlers opened the scoring with just five minutes on the clock, when a looping header was sent in the direction of Albert Adomah by Lewis Warrington, who was more than happy to guide the ball over the line after battling with his marker.
The Cobblers levelled the scores with eighteen minutes on the clock when Kamarai Simon-Swyer, who had been afforded far too much room by the Walsall defence, unleashed a powerful effort that gave Sam Hornby no chance.
Northampton went into the lead early in the second-half, after Simon-Swyer saw an effort deflect off Sam Hornby and over the line as the Saddlers defence struggled to clear the danger.
Town scored a third later in the half, when the Walsall backline seemingly went to pieces, as Sam Hoskins was allowed to run across the area before sticking the ball into the back of the net.
Walsall cut the hosts' lead in half, when Daniel Kanu, who had replaced Jamille Matt at the break, grabbed a goal. The on-loan Charlton Athletic man doing well to shake off his markers and slam the ball home.
The home side reestablished their two-goal lead in second-half stoppage time after Farquharson felled Edwards inside the area, allowing Tom Eaves to convert from the spot.
