Walsall will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they welcome Fleetwood Town to the Paller-Track Bescot Stadium for their rearranged League Two clash.Originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, 4th January, the match was moved to Tuesday due to a frozen pitch at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.
NEWS & VIEWS
Walsall's lengthy search for a return to winning ways came to an end on Saturday afternoon as a Priestley Farquharson brace saw the Saddlers take all three points from an early-afternoon trip to Shrewsbury Town's Croud Meadow.
Refusing to be distracted by Salop's late leveller – Iwan Morgan scoring via a superb free-kick during some generously extended stoppage time – Mat Sadler's men entered one of their strongest performances of the season on the way to victory.
While some have touted the result as a potential turning point, after going some seven games without a win, the pressure remains, as a meeting with the Fishermen means the team has little time to regroup.
Opponents Fleetwood are unbeaten in their last four league games and will reach their visit to the Black Country on the back of a disappointing goalless draw with relegation-battling Newport County.
Creating some twenty-five shots, the Fishermen were thwarted at every turn as the Exiles ensured they took at least a share of the spoils from their lengthy trip to Highbury Stadium.
Town have won two of their last three away trips and will be hoping to add to the Saddlers' recent stumbles at the Bescot – Mat's men failing to win any of their last five home league games – on Tuesday evening.
HEAD-TO-HEAD
There have been just sixteen competitive meetings between the two sides, and it's Walsall that hold an overall head-to-head advantage, as they've won eight times compared to Fleetwood's five. There have also been three draws.
The first meeting was an FA Cup — First Round clash that took place at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday, 6th November 2010. The teams went to a replay as Matt Richards' 4th-minute opener was cancelled out by Jamie Mullan in the second half.
Walsall went on to win the replay, played at the Banks's Stadium ten days later, as Reuben Reid bagged an unanswered brace to book his team's place in the Second Round.
THE LAST TIME WE MET
The most recent meeting took place at the Trawlermen's Highbury Stadium on Saturday, 13th September 2025, and saw the spoils shared as the teams played out a one-all draw.
Walsall started the game brightly, but it was the home side that would take the lead as Ryan Graydon was on hand to head the ball home from a ball across the box.
The Saddlers got themselves back on level terms later in the first-half when on-loan Charlton Athletic forward Daniel Kanu grabbed his second goal in as many games.
MATCH OFFICIALS
The EFL has confirmed that Steven Copeland, who is based on Merseyside, will take charge of the match, with Jason Roberts and Niall Felton being named as assistant referees. Jack Nield has been selected as Fourth Official.
