Gary Waddock Returns to Work as Terry Connor Departs

There will be a change on the bench this weekend, as Gary Waddock returns to work.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsThe Club has confirmed that Assistant Head Coach Gary Waddock has returned to work following his successful ankle operation late last year.

Waddock, who has been at the club since June 2023, has been a key part of Mat Sadler's backroom staff since he was appointed head coach. He has provided invaluable guidance and experience along the way, showcasing his knowledge of the game in abundance.

Following the Saddlers' meeting with Accrington Stanley in September 2025, Gary underwent successful surgery on his ankle, and he has been rehabilitating away from the club ever since.

As a result of Gary's return, the club also confirmed that Terry Connor will depart from his short-term role at the football club.

Terry joined the men’s first-team coaching staff on an interim basis in November and has had a positive influence during his time at WS1, bringing a wealth of experience gained from his extensive playing and coaching career.

Speaking via the club's official website, head coach Mat Sadler heaped praise on Terry and thanked him for all his support during his time in WS1, he said: "I want to thank Terry on behalf of us all for his hard work and dedication throughout the last couple of months and everything he has done for me and the football club.

"It's been incredible to get to know him in a football sense, but more importantly, as a person — he's given us all some invaluable bits of advice from all the experiences he has had over a long playing and coaching career, and I will personally be moving forward with the knowledge and experience that he has passed on to me.

"Whilst we'll undoubtedly miss his team talks in the huddle and the way he communicates with the group, he's somebody who will always be welcome at the football club as well as the training ground, and we hope to see him from time to time over the final months of the season."
