Match Preview: v Oldham Athletic (H)

Here we look ahead to the Saddlers' League Two clash with the Latics.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall will be in action for the final time in 2025 on Monday evening when they welcome Oldham Athletic to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

MATCH INFORMATION

Monday evening's match takes place at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.

NEWS & VIEWS

Walsall are undefeated in their last six league games, and will arrive at Monday's meeting on the back of a narrow win over Crewe Alexandra as the team that continues to frustrate their opposition retained their place at the top of the table.

Scoring the only goal of the game in first-half stoppage time, Jamille Matt entered one of his better performances of the season, making up for an unusually quiet Daniel Kanu.

As the fixtures continue to arrive at a rate of knots, it's important for some of the players either sitting on the sidelines or flying under the radar on matchdays to stand up and fill in when others are unable to make an impact.

Boxing Day's win over the visiting Railwaymen is unlikely to go down as one of the performances of the season, but the result could prove to be one of the most important as we reach the midway point of the league campaign.

TEAM NEWS

Kemar Roofe recently joined Harrison Burke and Harry Williams on the long-term injury list, as he is expected to miss around two months with a groin injury, calling into question is future at the club.

THE OPPOSITION

Oldham Athletic have won just one of their last five league games, and will reach Monday evening's match on the back of a goalless draw with Grimsby Town.

The Latics and Magpies managed to create twenty shots, with ten hitting the target, but neither side was able to get that all-important goal and had to settle for a point.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Walsall and Oldham Athletic have met on sixty-five previous occasions, and it's the Saddlers who hold the Head-to-Head advantage, having won on twenty-seven occasions, compared to the Latics' twenty-three.

There have also been fifteen draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at Fellows Park on Friday, 10th April 1936, as the two sides met in a Division Three (North) clash which Oldham won by two-goals-to-one.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting between the Saddlers and Latics took place at Boundary Park on Wednesday, 10th December 2025, and saw Walsall win by a goal to nil.

Mat Sadler's side grabbed the first and only goal of the game with twenty-five minutes on the clock, as Daniel Kanu was first to capitalise upon a defensive error to grab what was his tenth goal of the campaign in all competitions.
