Youth Alliance: Rotherham United 0 Walsall 2

Here we look at how the young Saddlers got on during their most recent outing.
Walsall Under-18s returned to action on Saturday morning as they made their way to Sheffield, where they were due to take on Rotherham United in their latest outing of the EFL Youth Alliance — North.

The youngsters have been in superb form over the last few weeks, winning a Cup clash with the Millers, before overcoming Burton Albion in the league, progressing in the Walsall Senior Cup at the expense of Darlaston Town, and opening their FA Youth Cup campaign with a victory over AFC Dunstable.

Taking place on the campus of Sheffield Hallam University, the Saddlers were well on their way to continuing their recent spell of good form with just fourteen minutes on the clock when Will Etheridge put his team into the lead.

Looking to keep fresh legs on the pitch, Saddlers boss Ryan Simmonds rang the changes as the second-half progressed, with McLloyd Oben, Paul Makavore, Olly Nash, and Lincoln Hunt replacing Louie Webb, Will Etheridge, Finn Teesdale, and Dylan Thomas.

The changes had the desired effect as substitute Paul Makavore scored the Saddlers' second goal of the evening with less than fifteen minutes of the game remaining as it looked like the points would be going the way of the Reds.

Walsall were ultimately able to thwart the Millers' advances and make the most of their opportunities in front of goal, picking up three welcome points as their spell of good form continues for at least another week.
