Youth Alliance: Walsall 1 Burton Albion 0

The young Saddlers returned to action on Saturday morning.
Walsall Under-18s were back in EFL Youth Alliance North action on Saturday morning as they welcomed Burton Albion Under-18s to the Birmingham County FA's Headquarters on Ray Hall Lane.

After knocking Rotherham United out of the Youth Alliance Cup last weekend, the young Saddlers were full of confidence and looking to earn a sadly rare win in the Alliance itself as the Brewers came to town.

WALSALL TEAM
Harrison Barber; Ellis Harris, Marley Roberts, Archie Bunn, Jakub Pawlowski, Stan Straw, Younusa Kanyi, McLloyd Oben, Paul Makavore, Will Etheridge, Ollie Nash
Subs: Lincoln Hunt, Finn Teesdale, Zion Tuitt, Jaden Kandemiri, Sam Oliver

Skippered by hot-prospect Stan Straw, the Saddlers got off to the strongest possible start when Paul Makavore put his team ahead with just two minutes played, after being found in space by McLloyd Oben.

Makavore's early goal proved to be the only one of the contest, as Ryan Simmonds' side showed plenty of grit and determination to hold on and secure just their second win of the 2025/26 Youth Alliance campaign.

Net up is a visit to West Yorkshire as the young Saddlers are due to take on bottom of the table Bradford City on Saturday, 1st November.
