Vincent Harper Starts as Kenya Defeat Burundi in World Cup Qualifier

The left-sided defender earned another cap for the Harambee Stars.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall defender Vincent Harper was named in the starting eleven as Kenya took on Burundi in their latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification – CAF Group F outing.

Taking place at the Intwari Stadium in Bujumbura, Burundi, both Kenya and Burundi have already been eliminated from this phase of the competition, having failed to secure enough points to advance.

The game got off to something of a fiery start when Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana was sent off with just six minutes played after he fouled Polokwane City goalkeeper Brian Bwire, Ben Omondi coming on for the Harambee Stars.

Vincent was cautioned in the first-half for a foul on FC Zbrojovka Brno forward Bienvenue Kanakimana, Harper taking one for the team as Burundi broke towards the goal.

The former Exeter City man wasn't afforded the opportunity to atone for his caution, as he was replaced by Lech Poznań midfielder Timothy Ouma at half-time.

Kenya opened the scoring with seventy-two minutes played when Ryan Ogam came off the bench to unleash a well-paced effort from the edge of the area, goalkeeper Jonathan Nahimana left rooted to the spot.

A welcome win for Kenya, who will return to action on Tuesday evening when they take on the Ivory Coast in their final group game.
