Walsall Sign Stockport County Defender Jid Okeke

The Saddlers have added to their defensive options with this latest new arrival.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall have confirmed the signing of Stockport County defender Jid Okeke, who arrives at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on a season-long loan.

German-born 20-year-old Okeke, who can operate as a full-back or wing-back, began his career with FC St Pauli before joining Oldham Athletic in 2018.

Spending time on loan at Stalybridge Celtic, he moved to Stockport County in 2023 and went on to enjoy loan spells with Chester, Hereford, South Shields, and Rochdale, where he spent much of the 2024/25 campaign.

Speaking via the cub's official website, Head Coach Mat Sadler admitted he is pleaded to have added another option at wing-back, he said: "Jid is a very attack minded wing-back.

He can play as left wing-back and a right wing-back, he likes to take his man on and likes to be aggressive in the final third.

"He had a good, productive loan at Rochdale which went well for him, and he also showed what he’s capable of in the two Carabao Cup games for Stockport earlier on this season.

"We look forward to seeing him, and we thank everyone at Stockport for helping us along with the deal. He’s a very exciting and attacking young player."
