Walsall boss Mat Sadler has heaped praise upon defender Evan Weir following his goal-scoring display during the Saddlers' 4-2 triumph over Tranmere Rovers.
Scoring two superb goals either side of a Joe Ironside effort, Weir once again showed not only his defensive strength but finishing prowess as the Saddlers continued their unbeaten run.
On-loan Charlton Athletic forward Daniel Kanu scored Walsall's third with just after the match reached the hour mark, before Billy Blacker saw an effort deflect past Myles Roberts and into the back of the net.
Saddlers substitute Albert Adomah reestablished Walsall's two-goal lead in second-half stoppage time, leaving the Saddlers with plenty to be thankful for heading into next weekend's clash with Accrington Stanley.
Speaking to the assembled media shortly after full-time, Sadler said: "We know that was a key point in the game, [Evan Weir's second goal just before half-time] and we were probably thinking let's get to half-time, and then reassess things and make some adjustments.
"Evan showed that quality to get us in front, and it's a big thing having a player of that quality.
"It's very difficult to score goals, but his left foot, especially when it's a tight game, is a great asset to have.
"Tranmere were on top five minutes before they scored, I turned to my staff and said 'that was coming'.
"We had to suffer, we did, and we came through the other side of it. That's a really important trait to have in any team.
"It's never going to be easy, it's never going to be one way, but today we showed real character and heart.
"Then, when the quality moments came, I thought Connor did brilliantly for Daniel's goal, and he showed the class that he has."
