Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall have confirmed the signing of the signing of Charlton Athletic forward Daniel Kanu, who arrives at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium on a season-long loan.

20-year-old Kanu came through the ranks at the Valley and after a prolific run in their youth sides, he earned his first professional contract in February 2022, and he made his senior debut that same month.

It was the 2023-24 season where he really caught the eye. After scoring three goals in his first four outings that campaign, he made a brief move to National League side Southend United on a one-month loan where the standout game of his career came as he scored four times in a 5-0 triumph over Solihull Moors.

He returned to Charlton and continued to enjoy a fruitful campaign, finishing on seven goals in Sky Bet League One for the Addicks.

Overall, he’s played 71 times for Charlton. Kanu also has five senior caps for Sierra Leone to his name, his first coming just days after his 19th birthday.

Speaking via the club's official website, Head Coach Mat Sadler admitted he was pleased to add to his attacking options, he said: "I’m delighted that Charlton have thought of us as the best place for Daniel’s immediate future.

"He’s a striker who’s had good success at a previous loan at Southend, and he’s also played and scored goals in League One for them.

"He’s very highly thought within the Charlton set up and someone that I’ve tried to sign on two other occasions, so happy that this time the stars aligned, and we were able to sign him.

"We’re looking forward to seeing him play. He’s quick, wants to run in behind, wants to stretch teams, and he’s got a very good eye for goal and good finishing.

"We look forward to watching him play, and we thank everyone at Charlton for their help on this one."
