Naming a team made up of recent arrivals, familiar faces, and academy prospects, the Saddlers scored via a Charlie Wragg brace along with efforts from Aaron Pressley and Josh Gordon as they eased to victory.
However, despite the welcome win, attention soon turned to the players who weren't involved as the likes of Jamie Jellis, David Okagbue, Priestley Farquharson, and Brandon Comley all missed out.
Speaking to the assembled media shortly after full-time, Sadler sought to quell the growing online speculation as he said: "Jamie was unwell, so he wasn't able to play.
"Dave and Brandon weren't able to play either. We didn't want Priestley to play in this game either.
"We've taken the decision to grow him into pre-season rather than expecting him to hit the ground running straight away.
"Because we want him to be fit for as many games as possible this season."
