Walsall Sign Airdrieonians Defender Mason Hancock

The Saddlers have added another option to their backline with this latest acquisition.
Bescot Banter - Walsall FC NewsWalsall have confirmed the signing of Airdrieonians defender Mason Hancock, who has joined the Saddlers on a two-year contract, with the option of a further year.

The versatile defender, predominantly a left wing-back, began his professional career at Aberdeen and after a handful of appearances for their Under 20s in the Scottish League Challenge Cup, he joined Stirling Albion on loan in January 2022 to gain senior league experience.

Going on to feature seventeen times for the Scottish League Two side, he also got the chance to play against Rangers in the Scottish FA Cup.

At the start of the 2022-23 season, he made his first-team debut for Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup, and played four times in that competition for The Dons before he ventured out on loan once again, this time at Scottish Championship side Arbroath.

Sadly, injury forced his loan to be cut short, and he subsequently returned to Pittodrie before leaving at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, ultimately ending up at Airdrieonians.

During his two seasons at the Excelsior Stadium, he featured 66 times and scored eight goals. In his first season, he got his hands on some silverware as The Diamonds won the Scottish Challenge Cup while he helped them retain their Scottish Championship status in 2024/25.

Speaking via the club's official website, Head Coach Mat Sadler admitted he is pleased to further bolster his defensive options, he said: "I'm delighted to bring Mason in. He's someone I've been watching for a long time.

"He's done really well up in the Scottish Championship in the last couple of seasons.

"He'll add some power and athleticism on that left-hand side and comes with really good pedigree for that quality left foot he has.

"I know there was loads of interest in him but we'd highlighted him from a long time ago.

"Again, he fits that mould of players who are young with experience that want to get better, improve and move forwards."
