Sadler Determined to Keep Fighting as Walsall Miss Out on Automatic Promotion

Here's how Mat Sadler saw Walsall's season-ending meeting with Crewe Alexandra.
Walsall boss Mat Sadler was left speechless after seeing his side denied an automatic place in League One despite ending a long winless run at the expense of Crewe Alexandra.

The Saddlers took the lead just before the hour mark when on-loan Birmingham City midfielder George Hall netted his third goal of the season, much to the delight of over 2.300 Saddlers fans who'd made the trip.

However, after playing what felt like a week of second-half injury time, the Saddlers were dealt a major blow as promotion rivals Bradford City scored a late goal against Fleetwood Town to jump back into the promotion places as the regular season came to an end.

Speaking to the assembled media, Sadler was first asked if he could sum up the game, he said: "No. My ears were pricked to the crowd the whole game.

There only needed to be one moment, and you know over there that they'd be throwing the kitchen sink at it.

"What can I say? I don't have the right words for it now. I thought the supporters were unbelievable today from minute one to the very end.

"The players were fantastic today. We showed real resilience and a real calmness towards the situation which was in front of us.

"Disappointing that we didn't see the job out today. We knew the situation before we went into it, but now we need to dust ourselves off and come out fighting again."
