PRE-MATCH VIEWS

There's no rest for the wicked as, following their one-all draw with Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon, the Saddlers are back in action on Tuesday evening as they take on fellow mid-tablers Colchester United.

Making the trip to the U's JobServe Community Stadium, Walsall will be hoping to return to winning ways as they aim to get their recently derailed Play-Off push back on track.

After failing to win any of their last four all-competition outings, the Saddlers now sit fifteenth in the League Two table, some six points off the Play-Offs, but, with several games in hand over the majority of teams around them, could easily be back in contention with a few favourable results.

Saturday's draw with title-chasing Orient went a long way to show that the team is heading in the right direction, and, with a few of the walking wounded returning to the fold, should be able to avoid slipping further down the table.

However, despite their potential points advantage, the Saddlers can ill afford a slip to a side that sits just one place lower in the table and is in desperate need of a win, with the Saddlers enjoying a five-point advantage over them.

Colchester will reach Tuesday evening's match on the back of a welcome win over Grimsby Town and a match that saw a Tom Hopper header separate the sides and extend United's promising away run.

WALSALL TEAM NEWS

Along with the likes of Liam Kinsella, Joss Labadie, Joe Riley, and Jack Earing, the Saddlers will now be without Conor Wilkinson after the striker was stretchered off during last weekend's draw with Leyton Orient.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have also been twenty-two draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at Layer Road on Saturday, 18th November 1950 as the two sides met in a Division Three (South) clash which took place in front of 9,584 and saw Harry Hibbs' Saddlers win by one-goal-to-nil as Phil Chapman netted the only goal of the game twelve minutes into the second-half.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting between the Saddlers and Colchester United took place at Poundland Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, 13th September 2022, and saw the spoils shared as Tom Knowles' first goal of the season cancelled out Frank Nouble's second-minute opener.
