PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS

Walsall go into their Boxing Day clash away to Swindon Town on the back of a two-week break after meetings with Salford City and Crewe Alexandra were postponed due to the recent cold weather.

Though the break will have enabled the manager to work on ironing out the odd tactical issue, as well as welcome a few of the walking wounded back into the fold, it may well also have taken away much of the momentum built before the break.

Winning four of their last six League Two games, the Saddlers are among the better-performing sides in the league as of late, and will be looking to return to winning ways as they make the trip to the County Ground on Monday afternoon.

Opponents Swindon Town have won just one of their last five league games as they were able to overcome Barrow AFC last weekend, the result halting an increasingly worrying spell of form as they now sit some seven points adrift of the team above them.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

There have been a total of one-hundred-and-three competitive meetings between Walsall and Swindon Town. And it's the Robins who hold a small overall lead having won thirty-nine times compared to the Saddlers' thirty-five.

There have also been twenty-nine draws over the history of the fixture, a history which began at the County Ground on Saturday, 15th October 1927 as the two sides met in a Division Three (South) clash which the Robins won by five-goals-to-nil.

The Saddlers would go on to lose the next two meetings, conceding another seven goals in the process, as their opponents enjoyed a strong start to the rivalry.

In fact, Walsall wouldn't secure their first victory over Swindon until their fifth meeting, which took place at Fellows Park on Monday, 23rd September 1929, and saw the Saddlers triumph four-nil.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting between the Saddlers and Robins was a Carabao Cup - Round One clash which took place at Poundland Bescot Stadium on Tuesday, 9th August 2022, and saw Walsall win by two-goals-to-nil as Danny Johnson and Timmy Abraham netted to see the Reds through to the Second Round stage.
