PRE-MATCH NEWS & VIEWS

Fresh off last weekend's welcome win over Wycombe Wanderers in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup, Michael Flynn's Saddlers make the trip to Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon as they get set to take on Carlisle United.

Goals from Jacob Maddox and Isaac Hutchinson saw the Saddlers comfortable dispose of their League One opponents, with the result providing the travelling faithful with plenty of reasons to sing their hearts out, and that's just what they did, so much so that Chairboys boss Gareth Ainsworth offered praise during his post-match mutterings.

Back to on the pitch matters, and the Saddlers' recent spell of improved form has unsurprisingly seen a rise in supporter confidence, something that will only be added to if their side can continue their run with a win over Carlisle this weekend.

With the two sides set to meet twice in the same month thanks to the recent FA Cup Second Round draw, this Saturday's match gives both bosses a chance to see their cup rivals in person, with both likely to look for weaknesses they can potentially exploit in a few week's time.

Looking closer at Carlisle, and the North West outfit will arrive at the match on the back of an eventful midweek three-all draw with Harrogate Town, a match which saw Owen Moxon's last-gasp equaliser secure the play-off chasers a late point.

THE LAST TIME WE MET

The most recent meeting between the Saddlers and Cumbrians was a League Two clash which took place at Banks's Stadium on Friday, 15th April 2022 and saw Walsall win by one-goal-to-nil as Jack Earing's goal two-minutes into first-half stoppage time proved to be enough to separate the sides.
