Though there were few things to smile about in midweek, the Reds seeing their winless run extended to ten games thanks to a Papa John's Trophy defeat to Cheltenham Town, there was a welcome return to fitness.

Named on the bench for the first time this season, summer signing Liam Gordon was finally able to take to the field in competitive action as he replaced Danny Cashman midway through the second half.

With the likes of Adam Przybek, Oisin McEntee, Joss Labadie, Joe Riley, and Conor Wilkinson among the list of walking wounded, we're greatly encouraged by Liam's club debut and welcome the first signs that Walsall's injury nightmare might be coming to an end.

Sadly, the match itself was one to forget for the Saddlers as, despite creating some promising openings, their lack of cutting edge was once again punished as Dan N'Lundulu and Liam Sercombe netted in the first-half before Danny Johnson's second-half salvo.
