We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Walsall and Coventry City goalkeeper Bob Wesson, who has died at the age of 81.

Thornaby-born Wesson joined the Saddlers from the Sky Blues in 1966 and went on to represent the club over seven seasons, where he made 220 club appearances, before retiring from the beautiful game in 1973.

Before signing for the Saddlers, Bob made a total of 156 appearances for Coventry, which includes appearances as part of the Jimmy Hill-led team which won promotion as Third Division Champions in 1962/63.

After deciding to end his playing career, Bob would enter the pub trade in Warwickshire and Leicestershire before enjoying a well-earned retirement.

We would like to send our condolences to Bob's family and friends at this sad time.
