Walsall boss Michael Flynn has spoken to the local press and offered an update in the injury status of one of last season's top performers.

As he continues to prepare his side for Saturday's pre-season clash with Solihull Moors, Flynn has confirmed that midfielder Jack Earing is currently sidelined with an Achilles injury.

23-year-old Earing is yet to feature for the Saddlers so far this pre-season and, after suffering a reaction during training last weekend, is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Speaking via the Express & Star, Flynn confirmed; "I’m not sure. With Jack, he’s missed all of pre-season. He had a reaction after running last Saturday.

"It’s one I just can’t put my finger on. It’s basically inflammation of the Achilles, which is making his calf tighter when he’s running.

"He’s going to have to be right as it’s a dangerous area to be messing with. If you go and your Achilles ain’t right, and it snaps, you’re in big trouble."

Going on to discuss whether Jack will be fit in time for the season-opening meeting with Hartlepool United, the gaffer admitted; "He’s playing catch up.

"He’s a naturally fit lad, but he’s playing catch up. He’s going to need three to four weeks, easy. He’s got to play games and get minutes, so watch this space."
