We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Walsall left-back Joseph 'Joe' Boyden, who has died at the age of 93.

Born in Willenhall on Tuesday, 12th February 1929, Joe joined the Saddlers from Walsall YMCA in December 1948 and formed a vital part of the reserves whilst continuing to work in a factory, Joe left the club in 1953 and went on to join Brierley Hill Alliance.

Also playing for Bloxwich Strollers, Joe has made several appearances at club occasions since his retirement, including the final game at Fellows Park, as well as the friendly against Aston Villa, which marked the club's 125th year anniversary, and at the Former Players Days in both 2017 and 2019.

We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to Joe's family and friends during this sad time.
