Walsall FC will welcome Acorns Children’s Hospice to Banks’s Stadium this Saturday afternoon for what will be their first official matchday takeover at our game against Port Vale.

Be sure to bring a pound to the ground as Acorns amazing Volunteers will be holding bucket collections across Banks’s Stadium in aid of the Acorns Room to Grow Appeal, which aims to raise £750,000 towards the major refurbishment of the charity’s Black Country Hospice.

Acorns will be outside the ground before and after the game and inside the stadium during half-time. You’ll also find Volunteers in the hospitality suite and the community hub.

And for those supporters who forget to bring change and still want to help Acorns create a children’s hospice for the future, they’ll have QR codes on buckets which will take you straight to Acorns online donation page.

There will be lots fundraising activities around the ground, plus information about the Appeal and how to support Acorns in our ‘Saddlers Shout’ matchday programme and on the big screen. And you won’t want to miss Acorns much-loved mascot Alex Acorn who will be joining Volunteers for the matchday takeover.

The Room to Grow Appeal aims to raise funds to help Acorns modernise the spaces at the charity’s hospice in the Black Country where local children spend precious time.

The work includes a number of significant upgrades to Acorns Walsall-based hospice, something the charity has been unable to do for many years due to financial constraints.

It will involve upgrading the 10 children’s bedrooms where children stay for short breaks, emergency or end-of-life care, and a new purpose-built arts and crafts room.

Noel Cramer, Director of Supporter Engagement at Acorns, said; "We’re so excited for Acorns first official matchday takeover at Banks’s Stadium and we are truly grateful to Walsall FC and Saddlers fans everywhere for their incredible support.

"Ever since we launched the Appeal to save our Black Country hospice in 2019, Acorns has developed a special relationship with the Club and its supporters, all of whom rallied to safeguard the future of this local lifeline.

"Now, as our Walsall hospice prepares for an exciting new chapter, once again the Saddlers are standing shoulder to shoulder with Acorns – and we could not be more grateful.

"We look forward to seeing you all at Banks’s Stadium on Saturday and wish the team the best of luck against Port Vale."

Adam Brearley, Commercial Manager at Walsall Football Club, added; "We are delighted to welcome Acorns Hospice for their Charity Takeover day on Saturday 23rd April vs Port Vale.

"When the Club joined the fight to save Acorns Hospice in the Black Country back in 2019, we made a commitment to try and do all we can to help.

"If we can continue to raise awareness of this incredible charity by doing things like this, hopefully it will inspire more people to back the campaign and help Acorns reach its annual fundraising target."
